Scholarships

Scholarships

At Kainon, we believe every child deserves access to an education that develops both character and capability. Our scholarship programme is designed to recognise and support learners who show exceptional promise in academics, sport, or culture — young people who are ready to make their mark and contribute meaningfully to school life.

Scholarships not only provide financial support but also create opportunities for learners to grow in a nurturing environment that values curiosity, resilience, creativity, and teamwork. Recipients are expected to uphold Kainon’s values, lead by example, and enrich the vibrant community around them.

We are currently inviting applications for Senior Primary scholarships (Grades 4–7), with limited spaces available in other grades. Families are encouraged to apply early to be considered as places are highly sought after and awarded through a fair, committee-led selection process.

Scholarships are only available to learners who are not currently enrolled at Kainon

Academics

Academic scholarships are awarded to learners who show strong intellectual ability, consistent performance in the classroom, and a genuine love of learning. We look for children who are curious, motivated, and eager to contribute positively to the school’s academic environment. Academic scholarship recipients are expected to maintain high academic standards and to be role models of diligence and responsibility.

Sport

Sport scholarships recognise learners with exceptional athletic ability, commitment, and sportsmanship. We encourage applicants who not only excel on the field but who also display teamwork, perseverance, and leadership qualities. Sport scholarship recipients are expected to represent Kainon proudly in their chosen disciplines, while balancing their sporting achievements with academics and overall school involvement.

Culture

Culture scholarships are awarded to learners with outstanding talent and passion in areas such as music, drama, art, or other creative and cultural pursuits. We look for children who demonstrate originality, creativity, and a willingness to share their talents with the broader school community. Recipients are encouraged to participate actively in Kainon’s cultural life and to inspire others through their creativity and expression.

Life at Kainon

Our values of respect, service, and growth shape every part of life at Kainon. Scholarship recipients become part of a supportive community where learning extends far beyond textbooks — through leadership, service opportunities, and friendships that last a lifetime.

  • A copy of your child’s latest school report (where applicable)
  • A copy of your child’s birth certificate
  • Any relevant certificates, awards, or achievements
  • A reference letter (academic, cultural, or sporting coach/teacher)

When do applications close?

Applications are considered on a rolling basis until available spaces are filled. Early application is encouraged, especially for Grade R.

What does the scholarship cover?

Scholarships will cover a percentage of tuition fees, depending on the level of award.

How many scholarships are available?

Scholarship availability depends on grade and capacity each year.

What does the scholarship cover?

Scholarships are usually awarded as a percentage reduction on tuition fees. Other costs – such as uniforms, stationery, tours, camps, outings, IEB exams, transport, medical expenses, and extracurricular activities – remain the responsibility of the family.

Are scholarships awarded for the full duration of a learner’s schooling?

Scholarships are typically awarded for a set period (e.g. one academic year or up to a specific grade) and are subject to annual review. Renewal depends on continued involvement, satisfactory performance in the area for which the scholarship was granted, and adherence to school values.

Does receiving a scholarship guarantee scholarship support for siblings?

No. Each scholarship application is assessed individually, and one child receiving a scholarship does not guarantee automatic allocation for a sibling.

Are there conditions attached to the renewal of a scholarship?

Yes. Renewal is at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee and depends on:

  • Maintaining academic, sporting, or cultural performance.

  • Good behaviour and a positive attitude.

  • Consistent fee payments on the family’s portion.

  • Ongoing financial need (families may be asked to submit updated financial records).

How are scholarship recipients selected?

Selections are based on:

  • Academic performance and/or sporting/cultural talent
  • An interview with the learner and parents/guardians
  • Alignment with Kainon’s values and contribution to school life

All decisions are made by the Scholarship Committee. Their decisions are final and based on the best interests of both the learner and the school community.
