SPORT

At Kainon, we provide a variety of sports and activities for your children. Both PE and after-school sports are mandatory, as we believe it’s crucial for younger children to experience many different activities. This helps them develop a wide range of skills, preparing them to play various sports in high school.

Through sports, Kainon focuses on nurturing a healthy body, mind, and attitude. Our programs emphasise skill development, good conduct, sportsmanship, self-discipline, leadership, and respect for others.

We are proud to offer world-class facilities, including a 25m heated pool, a mini astro, cricket nets, a multipurpose grass field, and a dedicated cross-country track where the Westville Ward trails are held each year.

SPORTS ON OFFER:

Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Soccer, Cross Country, Mountain Biking, Touch Rugby, Athletics, Chess.

SPORT IN THE PRE-PRIMARY:

At Kainon, we introduce essential sports skills in the primary phase. Early exposure to sports enhances children’s skills and interests, laying a foundation for all types of sports.

Physical Education (PE) starts in Grade 00 (Green Group), including swimming in the 4th term. Our Grade R students participate in the primary school’s gala and sports days. Each year, during sports day, Grade R students receive their house shirts and compete for the first time for their new house.

Our children can participate in various extra mural activities such as Action Cats, gymnastics, golf, and ballet.

OUR POLICY STATES THAT OUR GOAL THROUGH SPORT IS TO:

To provide every child with the opportunity to enhance their physical development through a program of physical training and sport and to develop a healthy body.

To use sport to develop skills, behaviour, conduct, good sportsmanship, communication, self-discipline, leadership and respect for others.

To provide the children with a sports program in each season that will inculcate fun, skill and healthy competition and to develop a lifelong love for physical activity and sport.

KAINON PHYSICAL FITNESS PROGRAMME

This long-term program, initiated in 2023 and led by an external professional sports and conditioning coach, was developed with three key objectives:

1. Assess the current physical condition of the school’s learners.
2. Enhance the overall health of the school’s learners.
3. Boost the physical performance of the school’s sports teams.

This is a two-tier program, starting with the “Physical Fitness: Health Programme,” which will progress to the “Physical Fitness: Performance Programme.”

Research shows that the early stages of cardiovascular disease often begin in childhood and adolescence. Therefore, assessing health-related fitness during these years is crucial. This program aims to give every learner and their parents insights into the child’s health and how it compares to international standards.

Kainon learners will be tested twice a year – once in the first term and again at the end of the third term. This provides an overview of physical development throughout the school year.

The Physical Health testing battery will include assessments of:

1. Cardiorespiratory fitness
2. Musculoskeletal fitness
3. Motor fitness
4. Height, weight, and BMI
