KAINON PRE-PRIMARY

Did you know that children learn most in their first seven years of life? Here at Kainon Pre-Primary School we instil this in our little learners by helping them become confident and enthusiastic in our small focused classrooms from Grade 00000 to Grade R.  Each child is unique, learning and developing at their own pace, yet they are curious and adventurous and enjoy learning through exploration and discovery, which we encourage through our planning and development of our lessons. Children need to learn to interact with one another from a young age, by taking turns, learning to be active listeners, respecting others and accepting diversity. These are key life lessons and skills that are required to become confident learners. We at Kainon believe that hands-on experiences are vital for life-long learning, ensuring that your child is ready to enter into their future journey of education.

These learning areas are integrated as we focus on holistic development through play and child-like fun activities in order to help your child grow and develop to their full potential.

Sport

Our children begin participating in formal PE lessons from Grade 00, with a focus on developing gross motor skills. Each week, we incorporate activities designed to enhance strength, core development, and overall motor coordination. Additionally, we offer a wide range of extra-mural activities, including Ballet, Swimming, Action Cats (ball skills), Gymnastics, Speech and Drama, PlayGolf, Pottery, and Young Engineers.

Culture

People are created, not for their own sake, but for the sake of others. To build a sense of responsibility, we raise the awareness of each child about the positive and negative effects that they have on people and the world. Our school motto is Happiness in a Useful Life and at Kainon we believe it’s never too early to learn this. Each year the Pre-Primary children are given opportunities to give back to the community. They can make sandwiches at home and bring them in for Mandela Day, collect animal food on our Easter Bonnet Day and collect recycling on Wednesdays for our box construction table. We are a proudly Christian school meaning on Thursdays, the whole school gathers in the church for service. With the younger ones present, the format and content are simpler. It is beautiful to see the little ones being looked after by the older students. Our grade 5s meet them down at the Pre-Primary, lead them up to the Church, sit with them during the service, and lead them back down at the end.

Life at Kainon

At Kainon, we believe a lot of learning is done spontaneously as ‘’incidental learning’’ which is why we facilitate a range of fun and educational experiences for our children. These range from firefighters visiting the school; puppet shows and concerts about sea life or respecting our bodies. Each year the Pre-Primary hosts a Mother’s Day, Fathers Day, Grandparents Day and Helpers Day. Our parents are encouraged to join the PA where we hold events to raise money for the development of the school.

What curriculum do we use

The Pre-Primary curriculum is guided by the NCF document and the ISASA framework. We are able to extend the basic caps curriculum based on our teacher to children ratio, ensuring they are well prepared for Grade 1.

What Grade does Kainon go up to?

Kainon School goes up to Grade 7. Kainon Pre- Primary students get the first option to Kainon Grade 1.

Values/ Morals

One of Kainon’s greatest strengths is the framework of Christian morals and values that ultimately guides everything we do. At the core of our faith is a focus on the Two Great Commandments: love of God and love of the neighbour. We embrace students from all different religious backgrounds who are willing to respect the Christian ethos at the school.

Who is raising your child/ren?

At Kainon Pre-Primary we are an extension of your family. Our teachers care about each child, and we aim to treat each child as the individual they are. Each of our classes has a teacher and a teacher’s assistant, ensuring your child receives the individual attention they deserve. Effective education is a team effort based on ongoing communication between parents and teachers. We work together to provide consistent and responsive education.

Does your principal/teacher get to know you as parents?

At Kainon, you and your family are not just a number. Here you are part of the Kainon Family. Our Principal, HODs and teachers care about every child and parent. Our Kainon parents often remark about how welcome they feel on campus by not only staff, but other parents too.

Do you potty train/Change nappies?

We do not formally potty train, as each child develops at his or her own rate. We support what has been implemented at home and we will try and continue the potty training at school to ensure that the child’s routine is maintained. We encourage regular toilet breaks and include toilet time in their daily timetable for all children. Children then learn to become more aware of their bodies and are encouraged to use the toilet when they see their friends going to the bathroom. We have nappy-changing areas in the school should your child still be in nappies. While we encourage children to be potty trained by Grade 000, this is not a prerequisite to being accepted.

How does Kainon School handle bullying?

We consider bullying a serious offence. It is unfortunately developmentally appropriate for some children to bite, hit, scratch etc in their early years, especially when they do not have the vocabulary to express their frustration, this is dealt with in a firm but loving way. Parents are always kept informed of any incidents involving their child/children.
