KAINON PRIMARY

Kainon School is a progressive, independent co-educational Christian school, based in Westville,
with small classes and dedicated teachers, providing a nurturing environment for learning from
Grade 00000 – Grade 7. Kainon is a proudly IEB school.

Our Christian morals and values permeate through everything we do. Being a smaller school means that all of our children are included in cultural activities, sports teams, and all events. We offer learner support during the school day and private after-school extra tuition.

In keeping with the Kainon tradition, we acknowledge the time-honoured values of In Usibus Felicitas (Happiness in a Useful Life) in all we do. Kainon includes Bible based values and morals as part of our Life Orientation in our daily curriculum and aims to support parents in the challenging task of parenting

Academics

Kainon is an IEB and ISASA registered school that follows the CAPS curriculum. With our smaller class sizes, we are able to provide individual attention to all students. Our Grade 1 and 2 classes each have a teacher and a teacher’s assistant to ensure that children receive the attention they need and deserve during these crucial early years of academic and emotional development.

Our focus is on developing the whole child, encompassing physical, moral/religious, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. These aspects work hand in hand, and the nurturing, responsive environment provided by smaller classes allows children to develop holistically and progress at their own pace. We also offer opportunities for accelerated learning and extension according to each child’s needs.

Our reduced homework policy aims to encourage children to participate in our extra-curricular programs, allowing them time to simply be children—an essential component of self-development.

We also offer a learner support unit for children who may be struggling. Students who need extra assistance can attend English and/or maths sessions twice a week with the learner support teacher. These sessions are conducted in even smaller groups, allowing the teacher to focus closely on the specific areas where the child needs help. This service is included in the school fees, so no additional cost is
incurred if your child requires extra support

Sport

At Kainon, we provide a variety of sports and activities for your children. Both PE and after-school sports are mandatory, as we believe it’s crucial for younger children to experience many different activities. This helps them develop a wide range of skills, preparing them to play various sports in high school.

Through sports, Kainon focuses on nurturing a healthy body, mind, and attitude. Our programs emphasise skill development, good conduct, sportsmanship, self-discipline, leadership, and respect for others.

Culture

People are created, not for their own sake, but for the sake of others. To build a sense of responsibility, we raise the awareness of each child about the positive and negative effects they have on people and the world. Our school motto is ‘Happiness in a Useful Life’ and at Kainon we believe it’s never too early to learn this. Each year the Primary children are given opportunities to give back to the community. They make sandwiches for Mandela day, collect animal food on our easter Bonnet day, sing at the Providence Rest Home, raise money for their favourite charities as well as donate when/if the need arises.

Because we are a proudly Christian school, the Primary Phase attends chapel 3 times a week. On Thursday, the whole school, including the Pre-Primary Phase, gathers in the church. With the younger ones present, the format and content are simpler. It is beautiful to see the little ones being looked after by the older students. Our grade 5s meet them at the Pre-Primary, lead them up to the Church, sit with them during the service, and lead them back at the end.

Life at Kainon

At Kainon we encourage our children to learn not only inside the classroom but outside as well. Each grade will attend a minimum of 2 day-long educational excursions that will tie in with what they are learning in class. We also have 4 education shows performed each year, with lessons ranging from the solar system to body autonomy. Each year the school hosts socials for the parents and children to give them time and space to get to know each other and enjoy themselves in a safe environment. We also host a Mother’s Day and Father’s Day as well as invite parents to attend assemblies and Prize Givings. Family participation and connection are a fundamental part of what makes Kainon unique. We actively encourage parents to join the PA to help organise and run our events such as our golf day, big walk, movie nights, staff play and more.

Values / Morals

One of Kainon’s greatest strengths is the framework of Christian morals and values that underlies everything we do. At the core of our faith is a focus on the Two Great Commandments: love of God and love of the neighbour. We embrace students from all different religious backgrounds who are willing to respect the Christian ethos at the school.

Who is raising your child/ren?

At Kainon, we are an extension of your family. Our teachers care about each child and we aim to treat each child as the individual they are. Effective education is a team effort based on ongoing communication between parents and teachers. We work together to provide consistent and responsive education.

Does your principal know you?

At Kainon, you and your family are not just a number. Here you are part of the Kainon Family. Our Principal, HODs and teachers care about every child and parent. Kainon parents often remark about how welcome they feel on campus by not only staff, but other parents too.

How does Kainon School handle bullying?

Kainon has a strict NO BULLYING POLICY. Depending on the age and severity of the situation the school attempts to guide the children to solve the problem together or with the assistance of our principal, however, should this not work parents will be called in. We will report instances of bullying to parents when they are brought to our attention.

Please report any incidences of bullying to your child’s class teacher.

Are we a feeder school?

Kainon School is not an affiliated feeder school, however our children are equipped to enter into any government or private school environment when leaving at the end of Grade 7.
