Kainon School is a progressive, independent co-educational Christian school with small classes and dedicated teachers, providing a nurturing environment for learning. Kainon School is a member of ISASA (Independent Schools Association of South Africa). Kainon School was founded in 1923.
Our Christian morals and values permeate everything we do – from our strong academic programme in line with the National Curriculum to our well-rounded sport and extra-curricular activities. Being a smaller school all our children are included in the cultural activities and sports teams and events whether this is their strength or not. We offer learner support during the school day and private after school extra tuition.
In keeping with the Kainon tradition, we acknowledge the time honoured values of In Usibus Felicitas (Happiness in a Useful Life) in all we do. Kainon includes bible based values and morals as part of our Life Orientation in our daily curriculum and aims to support parents in the challenging task of parenting.
Although the small classes and parental involvement allow for individual attention and hands-on learning, we are not a Remedial School. Changes in our society and education require that we are strong, that we are visionary in our leadership and that we utilise every resource to its fullest so as to ensure top quality education to every deserving pupil.
Our aim at Kainon is to encourage children to achieve to their best potential in all areas. Following the National Curriculum, and ensuring that we meet each child where they are at, the well-qualified and experienced teaching staff are enthusiastic in creating a love for learning and enquiry both in and out of the classroom.
Focus on Individual Strengths and Capabilities
A love for learning stems from a happy, encouraging and nurturing teaching and learning environment and a hands on approach in group and individual tasks, with a focus on each child’s individual strengths and capabilities. Each teacher aims to provide a classroom atmosphere that exudes excitement, interest and keenness.
An Independent School with a Christian Focus
As an Independent School, with its Christian focus, Kainon has the freedom of creativity along with its earnest focus, that adds increased depth and widened scope to the academic curriculum. Learning is about having fun and making sense of the world around us. Our aim at Kainon is to have happy, confident and well-rounded children step into High School after their Grade 7 year, with ease, enthusiasm and self-assurance.
Happiness In a Useful Life
Our motto – Happiness in a useful Life – focuses on encouraging each child individually in order to boost a feeling of self-worth and encourage each child to focus on best practice as they learn, develop and mature.
Kainon School Theme for 2017: “Watching Our Words”
“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips” (Psalm 141:3).
The words we say can have a profound impact on the people and world around us. They can build people up, inspire and encourage; they can connect us to others; they can be a tool to challenge, to confront, to clarify; or they can be a tool to hurt, to ridicule, to control. And so we need to watch our words—to pay attention inwardly to the motivation behind the words we want to speak and to pay attention outwardly to the impact that they’re having on others.
The apostle James writes, “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless” (1:26). And so we will be working next year on controlling our tongues, learning to think before we speak—learning to first ask ourselves, “Is this true? Is it kind? Is it useful?”
Learning to watch our words takes practice and so we will be working on it all year.
On our campus we offer Play School, Pre-Primary, Grade R, Junior and Senior Primary, Small classes and After-care. We are an active, fun filled community school, where classes are small and learning is big!
We cater for children from the year they turn 2 through to Grade 7. Kainon School has aftercare, a homework centre, multi media centre (library, and computer room), hall, swimming pool, sports fields, play areas etc.
